In our last article we covered some simple financial reasons why you should conserve water by fixing your sprinkler. Well in addition to saving a lot of money on your water bill, you’re also going to avoid trouble with a whole lot of people.  Like who?  Well for one, if you live in the Phoenix area, unless you’re living in an older neighborhood, odds are you might have a homeowner’s association to deal with.

If you live in a Master planned community, you want to make sure that you stay in good with your homeowner’s association.  Why?  Well, for one, when you bought the property,  you most likely signed away some rights to them to enforce the way that your property looks.  When you have a broken sprinkler, it can cause water damage.  Maybe not a lot, but just enough to get into trouble with your neighbors, your HOA, and the city as well.

Why Should I Fix a Broken Sprinkler?

Well if saving money on your water bill isn’t a good enough reason, how about avoiding fines and potential lawsuits?   Your HOA can fine you for a bad sprinkler, as can the city.  If you flood your neighbor’s property and cause damage you can be liable for those damages, and it is very likely that the court would side with the plaintiff as the cost of fixing your sprinkler is minimal compared to the damage that it can cause.

So, adding to our previous article, you can keep good will in your neighborhood, avoid trouble, and save money on your water bill.  How?  All you have to do is to call a sprinkler repair service.
This concludes part two of our series.  For more information on sprinkler repair, be sure to read part one as well.

Why Conserve Water?

There are several reasons why you should try to conserve water as much as possible. First off there is the fact that no matter how much we develop this area, we are still living in a desert.    The population has increased, and the water reserves have not.  And we are already starting to feel the pinch.

There are several ways to conserve water, and one of them is to get sprinkler repair done as soon as you know you have a problem.  Why?  Well, if you have a sprinkler system, the water is under pressure.  If one of your sprinkler heads breaks, you can easily spill 5-10 gallons of water before it shuts off.   So water that could have gone a lot farther has been used up because of something as simple as a busted sprinkler.  However, there is another reason why you want to conserve water.

Get Sprinkler Repair and Save Money

Getting sprinkler repair done is a bargain when you compare it to how much your water bill can skyrocket when you have a sprinkler that’s not working right.  So yes, if you need another reason to get it done, there is the fact that you’ll save money.

So, let’s recap shall we?  You can save money on your water bill.  You can make a difference and help to save the planet. And if you need more reasons, be sure to read our next article on sprinkler repair.

Sprinkler Repair Services Part 3: Avoid Trouble by Fixing Your Sprinkler

Part three of our series on sprinkler repair explores what could happen if you don’t repair your sprinkler in Avondale.

Sprinkler Repair in Avondale, AZ

Sprinkler Repair in Avondale, AZ | (928) 356-8167

Sprinkler repair in Avondale, AZ helps you to avoid more than just a flooded flowerbed or a soggy lawn.  It also helps you to avoid an escalating series of problems.  Let’s start with your neighbors.  Put yourself in their shoes for one moment.  If you were them, how would you like your yard flooded every time one of your neighbors turns on their sprinkler?  You probably wouldn’t.  In fact if you get mad enough, you’re probably going to complain.

When the complaint comes to you as a homeowner, at that point, you are not in that much trouble.  You just call in a sprinkler repair service and voila, the problem’s solved.  Where you run into problems is if you don’t do anything about the problem and it escalates.  As to how it can get worse, read on.

Repairing a Sprinkler:  HOAs, Potential Liability, and Municipal Governments

Love them or hate them, there are plenty of home owner associations (HOAs) in Avondale.  As a result, you have to keep up your property, and if something on your property is affecting someone else’s property, such as a broken sprinkler, guess who is in trouble?  Look up the terms of your HOA.  You may have to pay a fine to them for your sprinkler repair, and if  you keep flooding someone else’s property, you could find yourself sued by your neighbor.  And what’s worse, the city and in some cases the county can also fine and/or sue you.  All of which could have been avoided if you had just called in a sprinkler repair service in Avondale.

As to how much water one broken sprinkler head can spill, consider if you will.  Sprinklers are under pressure, which means that it is very much like a high pressure hose.  You can easily have a broken sprinkler spill a dozen or so gallons of  water in mere minutes.  So hopefully you now see.  Sprinkler repair in Avondale is much cheaper than the alternatives.

You have a broken sprinkler.  Do  you know what to do if your sprinkler breaks?

First off, stay calm.  Go find the shutoff valve for your water.  It will be on the outside of the house, near the garden spigot.  Switch it off. Now, go and take a look at your sprinkler system.  See if there is more than one leak.    Then call a sprinkler repair service in the Surprise area.  Don’t try to fix your sprinkler yourself.

Why You Shouldn’t Try to Fix Your Sprinkler Yourself

Sprinkler Repair

Sprinkler repair helps to repair a sophisticated pressure system:  your sprinkler.  You want to keep your sprinklers in good condition for a lot of reasons.

Sprinkler System Repair and your HOA

If you need to repair your sprinkler, it’s never a good idea to wait.  Why?  Well, for one, your Homeowner’s Association may decide to fine you.  Homeowner’s associations are usually in place to keep property values up, even though sometimes they fail miserably.

Regardless, if you are violation of the agreement that you signed when you purchased the home, such as a sprinkler in need of repair, you could face fines of up to $500.  In addition to the HOA, you may find that you are also in trouble with the city in terms of damages, and an inordinately high water bill next month.  So sprinkler repair is not a “I’ll get around to fixing it problem.”  There is another set of reasons you want to fix it as quickly as  you can.

Sprinkler Repair and Property Damage

Water can damage untreated concrete, as well as decking and patio furniture.  It also can ruin plants that are sensitive to too much water, such as cacti or succulents.  So the cost to repair your sprinkler in Prescott may be actually cheaper than replacing your plants, decking or concrete.

Water that is left standing also acts as a perfect magnet for termites, which obviously you do not want eating away at the foundations of your  home.  Water puddles also are breeding grounds for mosquitoes, and also draw cockroaches and other pests including rats and pigeons.  So, every time you turn on the sprinkler, you’ll get a yard fountain as well as flooding on your property.  Too much water can also kill your lawn, and leave you with a mud bog instead.  All of this can come from a broken sprinkler.

So as you see, leaving problems for a better time is rarely a good idea.  And doing sprinkler repair should be towards the top of your list.

Sprinklers and Irrigation System Repair

When you need to fix your sprinkler, it is good to know what type of sprinkler you have. There are several types of sprinklers out there.

Know Your Sprinkler for Sprinkler Repair

When it’s working, and doesn’t need sprinkler repair, a lawn sprinkler system uniformly waters your lawn, and work on both flat areas and sloped lawns.  The type of sprinkler head you have is usually determined by how much space you have to cover.  A sprinkler designed for a golf course is more powerful, as it has much more lawn to cover, obviously.  Usually the ones that are on people’s lawns usually pop up for a quick early morning or evening spray, then they retract. A drip irrigation system is usually something different.  It is a water-saving device that is used often to water bedding plants like flowers or shrubs.

Like a lot of products, there are sprinklers that are very elaborate, and some that are quite simple.  All of them however, have a network of underground pipes and valves, as well as the sprinkler heads themselves. On more sophisticated sprinkler systems is an automatic timer, allowing you to water your lawn when it works the best.  A good sprinkler repair service can fix your system, regardless of how complex it is.

Common Causes of Sprinkler System Failure

Sprinkler systems are nothing more than a network of pipes, valves, and sprinkler heads.  As a rule they should be low maintenance, however, the water that is in the pipes is under pressure.  Sprinkler heads have gotten better than they used to be, when they were made of PVC or other types of plastic.  Plastic sprinkler heads work well in other parts of the country, but they don’t work well in Arizona as they become brittle with the heat and can snap off, sending up a fountain.  Valves also can rust shut or jam.  When that or any other sprinkler problem happens, you want to call in a sprinkler repair service in Prescott.

Sprinkler Repair: Protect our Water

Sprinkler repair is something that you need to do for more reasons than just merely aesthetics.  Simply fixing your system can also help to protect a precious resource in Arizona: our water.

Sprinkler Repair:  Avoiding Desertification

Sprinkler repair is one method of water conservation
Sprinkler Repair Helps Conserve Water | Call Us Today | (928) 356-8167

One of the biggest challenges facing our planet in this century and centuries to come is the threat of desertification.  It is up to each person to make a difference by responsible water use.  Even fixing your sprinkler can help to relieve this problem and help protect a precious resource: fresh water.  First off, though, what’s desertification?  Well according to Wikipedia:

Desertification is a type of land degradation in which a relatively dry land region becomes increasingly arid, typically losing its bodies of water as well as vegetation and wildlife. It is caused by a variety of factors, such as climate change and human activities. Desertification is a significant global ecological and environmental problem. The Princeton University Dictionary defines it as “the process of fertile land transforming into desert typically as a result of deforestation, drought or improper/inappropriate agriculture.” [READ MORE]  If you’re thinking, how much difference can sprinkler repair make in a dry place like Arizona.  To put it succinctly, a lot.  Consider if you will.  A broken sprinkler can waste as much as 100 gallons of water if it ruptures. And drought is getting to be a big problem here.

Sprinkler Repair in Prescott

Prescott is a fast growing population center, however, with such growth comes some challenges.  One of the biggest ones is availability of water resources.  Lake Mead is at 39% of it’s capacity and may not be able to generate electrical power as soon as 2017.  Lake Powell is down to 30%, and even lakes like Roosevelt have lowered because of water demand.  As the population increases so does the demand on the water supplies.  Fresh water is a rare, and precious resource.  Sprinkler repair can help in a small way to protect this resource.

Lawn Maintenance Tips Part 3

Time for lawn maintenance
Time for Lawn Maintenance | (928) 356-8167

Lawn maintenance is more than just seeding and fertilizing, there is also watering.  Part three of a three part article series explores how much water  you’re going to need and how often you’re going to need.  Part one of this series explored seeding your lawn, and part two explored fertilizing.

Lawn Maintenance and Watering

First off, how much water will your lawn need?  Well, according to the University of Illinois:

How much water does a lawn need? In general, cool-season grasses need about one to 1.5 inches of water per week to maintain green color and active growth, and naturally slow down in growth and may go dormant in hot weather. Factors such as the soil, weather, and management practices all have a role in water needs of lawns. Here are a few general rules to follow:

Decide before summer to either water lawns consistently as needed throughout the season, or let lawns go dormant as conditions turn warm and dry. Do not rotate back and forth. In other words, don’t let the grass turn totally brown, apply enough water to green it up, and then let the grass go dormant again, as breaking dormancy actually drains large amounts of food reserves from the plant.

To read the source article, please click here.

Know How Much Water is Needed for Proper Lawn Care

With good lawn maintenance, you want a balance between over watering and not watering enough.  The amount of water that each type of grass needs varies significantly between species.   Warm weather and drought tolerant grass doesn’t need as much water as water from a cooler and moister climate.  Make sure that your watering method is in good working order.  Check your hose for kinks or breaks, and if you have a built in sprinkler system, make sure that you don’t need a sprinkler repair job done.

Lawns are fairly easy to take care of.  It is about putting down the right type of seed, and fertilizing the grass properly, and making sure that you put down the right amount of water.  With all of these skills down, you will find that lawn maintenance isn’t as hard as you may think.

Sprinkler Repair and The Dreaded Yard Fountain

Sprinkler repair is a good strategy to follow from winter to spring.  During winter your plants need less water, and go dormant.  You can check out your sprinklers to see if there is any damage to the heads or pipes simply by turning them on.

Look for the Yard Fountain:  A Sign that you Need Sprinkler Repair

Sprinklers that need sprinkler repair are fairly obvious. You either have a pool of water that starts to well up at the surface when you turn on the sprinkler, or even worse, the dreaded lawn fountain. When we refer to a lawn fountain, we’re not referring to something made of terra cotta, or resin. We’re talking about a gusher of water that springs up, usually someplace that you do not want water to be as a rule.

What Causes Sprinklers to Need Sprinkler Repair

Any sprinkler system uses some form of pressurized water to spray from retractable nozzles. When they work right, these nozzles deliver a fine spray of water that nourishes both the roots and the leaf structures above ground. An irrigation system in need of sprinkler repair, however, either dribbles, or fountains up, completely out of control. Sometimes it can even flood into the street, and if you live anywhere with a homeowner’s association, then you end up on their bad side too. Sprinkler systems are usually a combination of metal and plastic pipes and nozzles. Like any link in a chained system, when one thing goes, it can impact the entire system.

Sprinklers are not too complex as a rule.  Even ones set on a timer or that are fairly high-tech operate under the same principles as the simplest ones.  However, whether they are complicated or simple, a sprinkler like all devices will sooner need sprinkler repair.
